Stimulating the Economy while saving the environment

The hoover dam begun at the end of the Great Depression (1929-1925) and is currently the nation's largest electric power generating station.  The hoover dam provided jobs to construction workers, administrators, cement companies etc... and as these companies started to spend money, it had a ripple effect on the economy.

I just got back from Japan and I never once got on airplane or in a car during my entire two month stay.  I traveled all over the country, and saw large and small cities... completely without the need of an automobile.  How do they do this? With a world class rail system. High speed trains connect major cities, subways save people from having to sit in traffic, idling their cars and wasting gasoline.  Of course, cross country semi traffic is eliminated; as they are only necessary to transport goods from the train station to the place of business. There's a huge drop in fuel usage. Imagine the jobs that we would create by sponsoring the creation of a nationwide train network.  Think of the construction workers, the manufacturing companies, the refineries for metal and so on.   These people who now have jobs, would begin to spend their money while giving the country something to be proud of. Now that's economic stimulus.

Don't let the government take away your rights.  Why can't we solve the problem by providing people alternatives?
